Analyst placements in the catalog market, as vendors state them

Short answer

Atlan, Alation, Collibra and Euno all cite analyst recognition on their own pages. Here is what each claims, why we quote rather than score these placements, and how to use them.

Analyst reports are a fixture of enterprise software buying, and several vendors on this site cite them prominently. We quote these placements as the vendors state them. They do not feed our scores.

What does each vendor claim?

Atlan's analyst page says it is the only modern Leader in four reports: Leader in the 2025 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Metadata Management Solutions, Leader in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for D&A Governance Platforms, Leader and Customer Favorite in the Forrester Wave for Data Governance Solutions (Q3 2025), and Leader in the Forrester Wave for Enterprise Data Catalogs (Q3 2024). It also quotes Gartner saying Atlan scored highest for data lineage, impact analysis, semantics, orchestration and automation.

Alation's homepage calls it a five-time Leader in the Magic Quadrant for Metadata Management, covering 2017 to 2020 and 2025.

Collibra's homepage cites five Forrester Wave Leader placements in data governance and two Gartner Magic Quadrant Leader placements for D&A Governance Platforms, alongside 78 Fortune 500 companies and more than 2B data assets managed.

Euno says it was named in Gartner's Coolest Vendor Innovations in Data Management report in 2026.

The other scored vendors did not cite analyst placements on the pages we read.

Why do we not score analyst placements?

Three reasons. The reports use their own evaluation criteria. Report scopes differ from our question: a Magic Quadrant for governance platforms weighs vision and execution across a broad market, while we ask how fast and how reliably a product gets data ready for AI agents. And reports lag releases: much of what defines agent readiness shipped in 2026, some of it after the reports were written.

How should you use them?

As a signal of vendor viability and enterprise footprint. A Leader placement suggests a vendor that large enterprises buy and that will be around. That matters for a multi-year platform decision. It says less about whether the product's MCP server returns the context your agents need, or whether its lineage reaches your BI tool.

Read the report's own criteria before you lean on it. If you have access, check which product version was evaluated and when. Then put the placement next to your own tests, not in place of them. A placement from two years ago describes a product that has since changed, in a market that has moved faster than the report cycle.

What about review sites?

We do not show ratings from review sites anywhere on this site. Review counts and averages change constantly. If you use them, read the most recent reviews from companies of your size and stack, and look for comments on agent features specifically.

How do analyst placements relate to our criteria?

They overlap least with the criteria that matter most for agents. Agent access, answer checks and governance scoped to agents are recent capabilities; most of the reports cited above were scoped around catalogs and governance platforms more broadly. Integration breadth and enterprise footprint, by contrast, are things analyst reports tend to reflect well. In our ranking, the vendors that cite the most placements, Atlan, Alation and Collibra, also score well on governance, which is consistent with that pattern. The newer agent-specific criteria, by contrast, are where younger vendors and recent releases show up, and where a placement tells you least. Use both kinds of evidence for what each is good at.

What does this mean for smaller vendors?

Younger vendors, including Euno (founded 2023) and Modus, have less analyst coverage. That is a real risk factor for some buyers and one reason we list Euno's youth among its cons on its review. It is also why our ranking weighs documented capability rather than recognition.
