This memo covers announcements made between April and October 2026 by vendors on this site and by the two big data platforms. It is a recap of dated events, published on 19 October 2026, with each item linked to the page where we read it. Where a date comes from a search-result summary rather than the page itself, the source line says so.
April: Databricks puts semantics in Unity Catalog
On 2 April 2026, Databricks announced that Business Semantics, including metric views, was generally available and open source in Apache Spark. Databricks describes Unity Catalog Semantics as an open semantic layer that centralizes business definitions for BI, apps and AI. For teams on Databricks, this moved metric definitions into the platform they already run.

June: Jedify raises a Series A for context graphs
On 10 June 2026, Jedify announced a $24M Series A led by Norwest, with Snowflake Ventures among the investors, bringing its total to just over $33 million. Jedify describes an autonomous context graph for agentic applications that captures metric definitions, entity relationships, lineage, permissions, business rules and terminology, from structured systems and from documents, Slack and meeting recordings. The Weather Company is the named customer.
September: lineage, funding and a wave of AI features
On 3 September 2026, Snowflake's external lineage reached general availability after a preview that began on 16 January. It extends lineage in Snowflake's catalog beyond Snowflake itself.

On 9 September 2026, Euno announced a $23M Series A led by N47, with existing investor 10D, for $29M raised in total. Euno also said it had been named in Gartner's Coolest Vendor Innovations in Data Management report and named AlphaSense and Zayo Group as customers.

On 17 September 2026, Alation launched six products for its Intelligence Operating System. AI Governance and Semantic Model Mastering became generally available; Ontologies, Intelligent Feeds, Console and Governed Collections entered early access. The same day, Cube announced Cube + Snowflake CoCo on its homepage.

October: Horizon Context reaches preview
A Snowflake release note dated 12 October 2026 lists Horizon Context in preview. Snowflake describes Horizon Context as a governed semantic layer and data catalog with column-level lineage across Snowflake and external databases and documentation generated from metadata.

What ties these together?
Three patterns stand out. First, every category is converging on the same promise: context an agent can use. Catalogs add ontologies and MCP servers, context platforms generate metrics, semantic layers add chat and agent interfaces. Second, the data platforms are pulling catalog and semantic features inside: Snowflake through Horizon Context and its Select Star acquisition, Databricks through Unity Catalog Semantics. Third, funding is still going to standalone context vendors, Euno and Jedify among them, alongside the platforms' own features.
What happened before April?
Two older events set the scene and are worth knowing. DataHub announced a $35M Series B led by Bessemer Venture Partners on 21 May 2025, for $65M raised in total, and completed its rebrand from Acryl Data. ServiceNow announced its agreement to acquire data.world on 7 May 2025, and Snowflake announced its agreement to acquire Select Star's team and technology on 24 November 2025. Atlan's Series C of $105M, led by GIC and Meritech Capital, dates from May 2024. Each of these shaped the vendor set we rank today: two catalogs are now inside larger platforms, and the context platforms that remain standalone are well funded.

What does it mean for a buyer?
Release dates matter more than usual. Several of the features that define agent readiness were in preview or early access when we read the vendors' pages: Horizon Context, and four of Alation's six new products. Ask every vendor which features in your shortlist are generally available today, and score only those.
We update the ranking when a vendor's public pages change a criterion. The scoring model explains how, and the platform-native page covers Snowflake and Databricks in more detail.

- What each platform's MCP server exposes to agents
Most platforms we rank now ship an MCP server, but they expose different things: governance tools, certified metrics, context slices or lineage. Here is what each vendor documents.
- Consolidation: what the platform deals mean for standalone catalogs
Snowflake agreed to buy Select Star, ServiceNow agreed to buy data.world, and platform venture arms are investing in context vendors. Here is what that changes for teams choosing a catalog for agents.
